A new man to the blog this week with the long overdue debut (that’s my fault) of Dominic Bliss - the man behind @theinsidelefty and known as @Dominic_Bliss on Twitter.
Marcel Desailly taught me to reimagine the art of defending. For the man nicknamed ‘The Rock’ was undersold by his moniker.
A World Cup winner with France in 1998, he showed me, in his latter days at Chelsea, that the safest place for the ball was not the stand but a team-mate’s feet and that languid on-the-ball persona was complemented by positional perfection when an opponent threatened his penalty area.
Desailly’s dominant midfield performance in Milan’s 1994 Champions League Final triumph over Barcelona revealed his versatility as he lifted the trophy for a second consecutive year, following success with Marseille.
