Adrian Mutu’s plea for Florentine mercy

They called it the Compromesso Storico – the Historic Compromise. It was the term used to describe a political accommodation reached between the Christian Democrats and Communist Party in Italy in the 1970s. It brought together, however uneasily, two groups most people thought had little or no common ground.

It would now appear they are going to try the footballing equivalent on the banks of the River Arno. Adrian Mutu, who was taken out of the squad and off the market, could play for Fiorentina once more. It would be a U-turn which would make even the most brazen career politician blush.
