Milan’s Thiago Silva - defender of the season and Jedi master?
There is something of the Jedi about all the great defenders. They have a sense of anticipation which is superhuman, they can appear to bend events on the field of play to their will and sometimes simply their presence seems to send opponents cowering for cover. The Force is certainly strong in Thiago Silva.
The recognition of his outstanding quality is all the more remarkable at a club which knows more than a thing or two about fine central defenders. Franco Baresi, Billy Costacurta, Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta have all patrolled the zone in front of the San Siro goals in recent times. The Brazilian is already making a case for getting mentioned in the same breath – without it being seen as soccer sacrilege.
